Midwest Medical Center invites the community to expansion Grand Opening 4/10

Specialty Clinic, Infusion Bay, Rehabilitation, and Fitness Center are complete;
New surgery expansion begins

GALENA, IL—Midwest Medical Center will host a Grand Opening celebration on Thursday, April 10 from 5-7:30 PM. The public is invited to tour the recent South Wing expansion and learn more about expanded and new services offered to the community.

“We started 2025 with the end of the expansion in sight, and here we are celebrating the grand opening. It is hard to believe that the vision for this expansion started over six years ago as our inpatient census was increasing and we were adding specialists and cardiac rehab,” said Tracy Bauer, president and CEO.

The new expansion, which opened in Phase One in August, includes significantly more space for the fitness center, rehabilitation services, and clinic. “Since opening the first phases of the expansion in August 2024, we have already seen tremendous growth, and it truly has been a privilege to continue to serve you—our community—in bigger and better ways,” said Bauer.

Growth has included:

Expanded staffing to now include more than 310 employees who make a positive difference every day at Midwest Medical Center and Midwest Senior Care Community. Midwest Medical Center is one of the largest employers in Jo Daviess County. And the hiring continues.
New providers and services: Dr. Greg Dammann, Orthopedics & Sports Medicine; Dr. Ali Malick, Rheumatology; Dr. Peter Colegrove, Urology; Dr. Cara Leppellere, Gynecology and Obesity Medicine; Dr. Amish Patel, Interventional Pain Management; Rachel Einsweiler and Lisa Bourquin, Family Nurse Practitioners; and Lisa Hackney, full-time Dietitian.
New providers complement our existing Family Medicine providers: Dr. Michael Wells, Dr. Beth Gullone, Dr. Matt Gullone, Dr. Greg Harmston, and Danielle Seemiller and Stephanie Meier Shannon, Family Nurse Practitioners.
New Fitness Center—Four times larger than before and now featuring more and further diversified classes, equipment, and an indoor walking track.
A new infusion clinic that will be overseen by our Rheumatology team.

And growth continues.

“We are pleased to share that we have recognized a 31% increase in volume in our surgery department in the first quarter of 2025, and we are proud to announce our new surgery addition and remodel are underway; groundbreaking took place earlier this month. This expansion will allow for an additional operating room and endoscopy room with a larger Post-Anesthesia Care Unit and pre/post rooms to support the surgical rooms. This four-phase project will remain open throughout the expansion,” added Bauer.

Working side by side with the Midwest Medical Center team has been River Valley Architects and Market & Johnson construction management. “They become not only a part of our team but a part of our community,” shared Bauer.
