Jennifer Berning, DPT Director of Physical Therapy
Jennifer is a graduate of Clarke College where she received a Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy. During her schooling, Jennifer trained at the Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center in which she developed a love for sports medicine and orthopedics. Jennifer is trained and certified in the Graston Technique for soft tissue mobilization and is a certified provider in the evaluation and fabrication of custom shoe orthotics. She has managed the therapy department since 2011 and has been working at Midwest Medical Center since 2009. She feels honored to work with and manage such a talented group of therapists. She is very happy to be working at Midwest Medical Center in her hometown and is excited to give back to the community in which she grew up.
Erin Schoenhard, DPT Senior Physical Therapist
Erin graduated from Clarke College in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology and a Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy. Erin enjoys working in a rural setting as she is able to treat patients of all ages in a variety of settings. Erin has received specialized training in the treatment of pelvic floor disorders, with an emphasis in urinary incontinence. She is also a certified Kinesiotaping and Aquatic Therapy provider allowing Erin to bring some of the most advanced physical therapy interventions here to Midwest Medical Center. Erin also manages our home therapy services providing physical therapy to JoDaviess County.
Andy Loeffelholz, DPT Senior Physical Therapist
Andy Loeffelholz is a 2011 graduate from Clarke University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology along with a Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy. Andy’s areas of interest include sports medicine and orthopedics. He has worked in many practice settings including a sport rehabilitation center in Atlanta. Andy has continued on to receive specialized training in manual techniques through the North American Institute of Orthopoedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT). Andy is also a certified provider of the Graston technique. Andy is originally from East Dubuque, IL and is looking forward to treating patients in his local community.
Julie Soat, PTA Physical Therapist Assistant, Massage Therapist
Julie received her Bachelor of Science in Health & recreation from upper Iowa University along with a Physical Therapy Assistant training from Kirkwood. Julie has 15 years of physical therapy experience and 25 years of experience in the health, fitness and massage industry. Julie is also a certified lymphedema specialist and is certified in Graston for soft tissue mobilization. Julie brings a multitude of talent to the clinic and continues to look forward to helping others throughout their process of recovery.
Justin Glen, DPT Physical Therapist
Justin is from Rochelle, IL and graduated from St. Ambrose University with a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science and continued on to receive a Doctorate degree in physical therapy from Clarke University in 2011. Following graduation Justin practiced at Trinity Outpatient Rehabilitation in Rock Island, IL. Justin joined the Physical Therapy Department at Midwest Medical Center in 2012. His areas of interest include orthopedics, sports rehabilitation and promoting general health through exercise. Justin is also a certified provider of the the Graston Technique for soft tissue mobilization. Justin is looking forward to working with athletes of any age and background.
Kate Timmerman, DPT Physical Therapist
Kate graduated from Clarke University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and a Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy. Kate completed internships nationwide including rural hospital settings similar to Midwest Medical Center. She is certified in the Graston Technique and casting of custom shoe orthotics. Kate looks forward to helping patients who need her expertise. Kate has additional specialty training in lymphedema as well as rehabilitation following amputation to include prosthetic training.
Nella Bernardoni, DPT Physical Therapist
Nella is a graduate of the University of New England in 2015 with a Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy. She has experience treating a variety of patients in clinic and hospital settings. Nella also provides home therapy services for Midwest Medical Center to include patients within JoDaviess County. Nella has continued on to develop a specialty in treating patients with pelvic health conditions such as incontinence, pain and weakness. Originally from Darlington, Wisconsin Nella looks forward to working in our rural setting which allows her to treat a large variety of patients.
Kathryn Ernst, DPT, ATC/L Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainer
Katie graduated from Clarke University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and continued her education to earn a Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy in 2016. She has been a member of the Midwest Medical Center Physical Therapy team as a practicing athletic trainer within the Galena Schools since 2013. In addition to working at the clinic, she is the primary athletic trainer for East Dubuque High School, covering all sport seasons for the athletes. Katie brings skills to our clinic both as an AT and PT with her specialties including orthopedics and sports rehabilitation. Katie also treats patients with vertigo or vestibular disorders impacting gait, balance and daily activities. Originally from Sugar Grove, IL Katie appreciates working in a small town with a friendly community. She also greatly enjoys the opportunity to work with such a broad range of patients from athletes to the elderly.
Katelyn Steele, DPT, ATC/L Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainer
Katelyn is a Clarke University graduate where she obtained both her undergraduate and doctoral degrees. Katelyn is a licensed Athletic Trainer as well as a Physical Therapist who can be seen working in the clinic as well as on the sidelines at local sporting events, primarily River Ridge and Scales Mound. Katelyn is trained in the Graston Technique for soft tissue mobilization and enjoys applying her skills to her patients and athletes to eliminate pain and improve activity with day to day activities and sport.
Katy Pittz, OT Occupational Therapist
Katy received her undergraduate degree from University of Platteville, Wisconsin and then continued on to receive a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy through the University of Minnesota. Katy has a special interest in aging in place, which involves working with patients and their families to allow them to stay in their homes as long as possible through navigating the aging process. This would include patient and caregiver training as well as home modifications. Katy also has a strong knowledge base in treatments and interventions involving the upper extremities such as trigger finger, carpal tunnel and tendinopathies of the hand wrist and elbow.
Megan Weber, ATC/L Athletic Trainer
Megan received her training at Illinois State University. Megan provides and coordinates the athletic training services to our local community schools including: Galena, East Dubuque, River Ridge and Scales Mound. Megan’s expertise involves assessing and treating injuries that occur during sport and working with the athlete, parents and coaching staff to return the athlete to safe play. Interventions she provides include: evaluation and assessment of injury, baseline concussion testing, strength and condition and much more.
Athletic Training Team Serving Community Schools
Our Athletic Trainers are educated and trained in the prevention, diagnosis and rehabilitation of injuries to keep athletes healthy and on the field. In addition to the medical services, our trainers also deliver risk mitigation services through injury prevention and care policies, as well as appropriate medical referral. Midwest Medical Center’s Athletic Training programs have been developed to provide our local community the resources necessary in a cost-effective manner that best accommodates each individual school. Our trainers provide on-site game and practice coverage tailored to the needs of each school we serve.
